Lists and Units
  • Lists will be Battleforged using the 8th Edition rules and must be up to 750 points. This is a team event, so that means teams will be a total of 1500 pts.
  • There are no restrictions on which Detachments you may take, but lists must be battleforged and you may only use ONE Detachment.
  • You will be narratively paired with a team-mate against narrative opponents in the first game. After this, teams will be determined by battle score with players performing well being paired with players performing not so well. Note that no two players will form a team more than once.
  • Only source material released before July 30, 2017 will be allowed. Items up for pre-order on July 29 do NOT count.
  • PLEASE DO ME A FAVOR AND EMAIL ME A COPY OF YOUR LIST BY JULY 29 so that I may work out pairings for game 1 before the event:  adam.fasoldt@gmail.com
  • You may have a maximum of one under-strength unit in your list.

Models
  • All models should be a 3-color minimum and minimum based for this tournament. It is only 750 points after all.
  • All units must be WYSIWYG - What You See is What You Get.  Flamers are not Meltaguns.
  • Any counts-as units must present a good effort to reduce confusion for your opponents. Counts-as must be provided to the Tournament Organizer (adam.fasoldt@gmail.com) before the event if you want to avoid your model not being allowed on game day. This is especially true for Forge World or Horus Heresy models. Make sure they are the legitimate models or the alternative models are very convincing. If we begin to see nothing but poorly built armies simply to take advantage of good rules, restrictions against these units will likely creep back into our events.
  • Kitbashes must provide your opponent all the benefits and yourself all the negatives of any difference in size you may have modeled.
  • Don't be a jerk. If you follow this simple rule, you won't go wrong. We are subjective about our modeling policies, and are happy to work with anyone, but if you try to follow them to the letter and squeak out some kind of advantage, you will be disqualified from the event.

Scenarios

Since this is our first 8th edition event, we wish to keep things casual and easy. We will be using random Eternal War missions and random Deployment Types for all three games. There will be one specific exception to these missions in that First Blood will not be used. We will be using Preliminary Strike instead.

Preliminary Strike

The team who destroys the most units in Game Turn 1 wins this mission and 1 Victory Point. If both players destroy at least one unit and destroy the same number of units, they tie and both score 1 Victory Point. A team who destroys no units in Game Turn 1 scores 0 Victory Points.

Scoring

In order for every team to have a fair gauge of their score versus another team's score, scoring will be based on the difference between Victory Point totals in each game. Note that the rules for concessions and wipeouts from the main rulebook will be used for this event.

The game is a tie if both players have the same score at the end of the game.
The game is a minor Victory/Defeat if the difference between the players’ scores is 9 or less.
The game is a major Victory/Defeat if the difference between the player's scores is 10 or more.

Major Victory - 10 battle points
Minor Victory - 7 battle points
Draw - 4 battle points
Minor Defeat - 2 battle points
Major Defeat - 0 battle points

What to Bring
  • Your Army
  • Tape Measure, Dice, Game Aids, etc.
  • 3 Objective Markers with the center clearly marked.
  • 5 Typed Copies of your army list. Be sure to notate who your Warlord is on your army list.
  • All pertinent rules for your army. Codices, White Dwarf Articles, Foregworld Rules, etc.
  • If you are using a counts as army, bring a "cheat sheet" for your opponents.
Rules Judgments

Rules issues will be dealt with swiftly by a roaming judge. We use a hierarchy for determining rules issues as follows:
  1. Main Rule Book
  2. Games Workshop FAQs and Erratas
  3. Tournament-specific Rules
  4. Judgements at the Table

Tournament-Specific Rules
  • We will be limiting the command re-roll stratagem to being used for die rolls made after the first battle round has begun and to not be allowed to re-roll the roll to end the game on turns 5, 6, and 7.
  • The player who finishes deploying first will, instead of going first, receive a +1 on the roll to determine who goes first.
  • We will be using the Advanced Terrain Rules in this event. Other terrain rules may be present on the day of the event and also may appear in this space leading up to the event. Among the things being discussed is the concept of allowing tall models to strike units hiding on levels of terrain in close combat.
  • Players on a team may NOT share the Command Points gained from their Detachment with their teammate.
  • Note that players do not each get the base 3 CP for being Battle Forged. They share these points instead.
  • Please keep an eye on the Facebook event for additional announcements

The Fool's Errand Combat Patrol - April 1 2017

We will be running a Combat Patrol tournament on Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 am. We will play as many rounds as we can stomach - to a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 games. The entry fee is $10 with all fees going to prize support.

Thank you to Adepticon for developing this format over the years.

  • Armies will consist of 400 points or less, and must be constructed utilizing ONE of the following options:
    • 0-1 Modified Combined Arms Detachment:
      • 0-1 HQ
      • 1-6 Troops
      • 0-1 Elite
      • 0-1 Fast Attack
      • 0-1 Heavy Support
      • All Troops in this Detachment gain the ‘Objective Secured’ special rule. This is true even for Horus Heresy armies.
    • 0-1 Unique Codex Detachment
  • Players MUST use the same army list throughout the tournament.
  • Codices, Codex Supplements and Warhammer 40K Campaign Supplements that are released prior to March 27th, 2017 will be allowed in this event. Apocalypse War Zone supplements, Apocalypse Formations WILL NOT be allowed in this event.
  • Unique units, Imperial Knights, Allied Detachments, Data Slates, Fortifications, Lords of War will NOT be in used in this event.
  • Rules Modification (All Units):
    • Vehicles with armor value facings over 12 are considered to be 12 for the duration of all games, but may be reduced further due to game effects.
    • Vehicles with more than 3 hulls points are reduced to 3 at the start of the game. Hull points may not be restored beyond their starting value.
    • Other than Troops and units with the ‘Swarm’ USR, units with more than starting 2 wounds are reduced to 2 wounds at the start of the game. Wounds may not be restored beyond their starting value.
  • Rules Modification (Psykers): All Psykers may only attempt to manifest ONE Warp Charge psychic powers..
    • Psykers may exchange powers as normal.
  • Rules Modification (Flyers/Reserves): At the start of your Turn One, and each turn thereafter, you must roll a D6 for each Flyer being held in reserve. If the roll is 3 or more, the Flyer and all embarked units arrive at the start of the following turn. Flyers and all embarked units will automatically arrive at the start of Turn Five.
    • Example: On Turn Three, a Necron Night Scythe with troops makes a successful Reserve Roll - they will arrive on Turn Four. There is no need to make a Reserve Roll at the beginning of Turn Four, as all remaining Flyers and embarked units will automatically show up at the beginning of Turn Five.
  • A printed army list is required for the judges and each of your opponents (minimum of 6 copies required). Each army list MUST contain the following details: Player Name, the name of any Detachment (Modified Combined Arms Detachment, Nemesis Strike Force, Wrecker Node, etc.), the units included in each Detachment, the Faction of each Detachment.

The Warhammer 40,000 7th Edition Rules and all relevant Games Workshop Errata and FAQs will be used. In the case of a conflict between a printed and digital versions, the most recent update or FAQ will take precedence.

The current ITC FAQ will be used to resolve additional rules disputes.

Each player must bring a Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, the most currently published rules for all units represented in their army and all materials needed to play a game/report the results - including dice, measuring devices, templates, and a writing implement.

The models used in your army must MUST be WYSIWYG and 3-colors. Conversions, custom models, and creatively-executed counts-as models are allowed, but don't push it. Email the T.O. if you have ANY concerns in this regard.

Tournament Judges' and Officers' rulings are final and arguments or poor conduct by players will not be tolerated.

Narrative Environment

The purpose of this event is to kick off our Spring Narrative League: The Xorn IV War - the Fight for Keehar Hive. The following houserules will be in effect in order to follow this narrative.

  • The terrain will represent the outskirts Keehar Hive on the 4th moon of Xorn. All terrain will be set up like a city fight.
  • A powerful Void Shield protects Keehar Hive, therefore
    • Drop Pods are not allowed
    • Orbital bombardments and similar rules are not allowed (ask if you're not sure)
    • Barrage weapons which are using Indirect Fire will ALWAYS scatter, using the small directional arrow when an On Target is rolled.
    • Deepstriking by other units IS allowed. This represents the models flying low, then dropping in. Also, most factions have teleporter beams focused in from their beach-head locations, so Terminators and the like can also Deepstrike in.
  • Expect narrative, but not overly strange or powerful mysterious objectives.
  • Expect pairings and missions to facilitate the narrative. There will be a huge benefit to taking Troops and Troop Transports over things like Flyers and Artillery.
  • Victories and defeats will have an impact on the ongoing campaign.
  • Fortification buildings will be buildings by the rules, albeit dilapidated ones.
  • In addition, all Novas will require Line of Sight to affect an enemy. This strictly for balance purposes in this event type.
